The Rolling Stones - Some Girls
Released in 1978 Track Listing Miss You When the Whip Comes Down Imagination Some Girls Lies Far Away Eyes Respectable Before They Make Me Run Beast of Burden Shattered
To many, the last good Stones album to be put out was the horrid Exile On Main St(For whatever reason), but there are two really excellent ones(this and Tattoo You) that are always overlooked. Why? Good question. But it probably has something to do with Mick Jagger being way too trendy. Of course, Some Girls *is* a rather trendy album, trying to embrace disco and punk and all o' that, but really, it's a nicely put together.
So what is there to say about this album? Not much. I mean, it has its moments like with the thump-y horns of "Miss You" and the oddly melancholy tone to "Beast Of Burden", but really, the rest of the album can be summed up in two words: Rolling Stones. Yup. It's everything you'd expect from them, even throwing in the odd bluesy-folky cover("Imagination"). Of course, this sounds like a cop-out, but I honestly have nothing else to say. This is the hardest album I've ever had to review because it's so generic and predictable, but yet still really amazing. 0_o
Ugu.
Interesting cuts include: Miss You, Shattered, Beast Of Burden
10/10

Exile getting 5.5 and Some Girls getting 10? *Confused* Miss You is catchy as hell though

It's not confusing at all, really.
Just a note: For the 50th review, I'll do an extra-special Sgt Pepper review.

Or -- since it'll probably take me three years to reach 50 reviews -- I might do it as a "100th Post Special". *hinthintnudgenudge*

Oh, I thought you were saying it was close to 50 already. It is already at 29 though >_>

Exactly. And seeing all of those breaks I take in between review waves, I expect to reach 50 in three years.

Straf, I want to ask you something.
I didn't even give my favorite album of all time, The Lonesome Crowded West, a 10. You're handing out 10s like it's nobody's business.
Do you at any point put any real thought into these ratings?

Do you at any point put any real thought into these ratings? Yes. My criteria are: -Originality -Consistency --Quality of arrangements and songwriting (Adequacy) --Quality of performance (Adequacy) -Listenability -Resonance (only when applicable) (Like... if it's supposed to mean something, does it convey it well?) The presence of those can make me give an album an extra point or two than what a casual listener would. Like... I hate Bob Dylan, but Blood on the Tracks could easily get a 10 while stuff like Waiting for the Sun(which I really like) would get a lower rating(which it did). Of course, you may have a stricter criteria, so your idea of a 10 could be completely different than mine. If you don't agree, by all means, review it yourself and show me where I went wrong, please. (Not to be offensive) I'd like to know.

You've reviewed maybe 30 albums and more than 10 of them are Perfect I believe that saying something 10/10 is impossible because that is saying that it is in every way perfect and we all know that something being perfect is impossible

I'm not calling them perfect. It may seem like I am, but that's only because I'm not nit-picking.
Believe me, if I were nit-picking, Some Girls would be somewhere in the negatives. >.>

Also, it's only 7 out of 29 or 30.
Just sayin'. >.>
